Editorial Policy

This editorial policy explains how content on MosquiTalk is researched, created, tested, reviewed, and maintained. We publish this openly because we believe readers evaluating mosquito control and mosquito-borne disease information deserve to know exactly how that information was produced — not just what it says.

Our Editorial Principles

1. Test before we recommend
Product and method-based content — repellents, traps, yard and outdoor treatments — is based on direct, hands-on testing by our founder, Raashid Ansari, under real seasonal conditions. We do not publish recommendations based solely on manufacturer claims, affiliate incentives, or secondhand reviews from other sites.

2. Cite primary sources
Research-based claims are sourced from peer-reviewed entomological and public health literature, and recognized authorities including the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and relevant regional and national authorities. We do not source factual claims from other blogs, forums, or unverified secondary content. Where a source informs a claim, it is linked directly within the article.

3. Route medical content through medical review
Any content addressing mosquito-borne diseases — including transmission, symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, or treatment — is reviewed by a licensed medical professional before publication. This review is separate from, and in addition to, our standard editorial process. See “Our Review Team” below.

4. Disclose the limits of our expertise
Our founder and writers are not licensed entomologists or medical professionals, and we state this plainly rather than implying credentials we don’t hold. Where content relies on professional verification rather than direct testing or author expertise, this is disclosed within the article itself.

5. Keep content current
Mosquito control products, public health guidance, and disease surveillance data change over time. Published articles are periodically revisited and updated to reflect new research, product changes, or revised health authority guidance. Every article displays its original publish date and most recent update date.

6. Correct errors transparently
If a factual error is identified in published content, it is corrected as soon as possible, and where the correction is substantive, a visible note is added to the article describing what changed and when. We do not silently edit factual claims after publication.

Our Content Process, Step by Step

Research A topic is researched using primary sources: peer-reviewed studies, public health body guidance, and, for product content, direct manufacturer specifications.

Testing (where applicable) For product- and method-based topics, testing is conducted directly by our founder under real-world conditions before any claim or recommendation is drafted.

Drafting Content is written in plain language, prioritizing clarity over technical jargon, while preserving factual accuracy.

Expert consultation (where applicable) For technical topics beyond direct testing, we consult entomologists or pest management professionals to verify accuracy before publication.

Medical review (disease-related content only) Content covering mosquito-borne illness is reviewed line-by-line by a licensed medical professional, who verifies clinical accuracy and confirms the content does not overstate or understate medical risk.

Publication → The article is published with a visible author byline, reviewer credit (where applicable), and publish date.

Maintenance Articles are periodically checked against current research and guidance, and updated as needed, with the update date displayed.

Our Use of AI

We use AI tools during parts of our content process — primarily for early-stage research assistance, topic and outline ideation, and drafting support. AI is not used as a source of factual claims: every fact, statistic, product result, or health-related statement published on MosquiTalk is independently verified against primary sources, direct testing, or professional review, as described above, regardless of whether AI was involved in early drafting.

Specifically:

  1. AI-assisted: Idea generation, topic research starting points, outline structuring, and first-draft language for non-technical sections.
  2. Never AI-generated without verification: Product testing results, medical/health claims, statistics, and any content reviewed under our medical review process (see above). These are always grounded in direct testing, primary sources, or professional review — AI involvement does not substitute for that verification at any stage.
  3. Human oversight: All AI-assisted drafts are edited, fact-checked, and approved by our team before publication, and disease-related content additionally passes through medical review regardless of how the initial draft was produced.

We disclose this because we believe how content is produced matters as much as what it says.

Despite these safeguards, occasional inaccuracies may still occur, and we do not guarantee that all content is error-free or fully up to date at all times. If you notice an error, please contact us so we can review and correct it.

Our Review Team

Our content is created by experienced writers and supported by qualified subject-matter professionals who help ensure that the information we publish is accurate, well-researched, and presented responsibly. We believe transparency about the people behind our content is an important part of building reader trust.

Meet the authors, medical reviewers, entomologists, and pest management professionals who contribute to and review our content on Our Team page.

Advertising, Affiliates & Independence

MosquiTalk may earn a commission from some product links on this site. This affiliation never determines which products we test or how we report results. A product’s performance in our direct testing is reported honestly regardless of any commercial relationship, and underperforming products are described as such even where an affiliate link exists. Where an article includes affiliate links, this is disclosed within the article.

What This Site Is Not

MosquiTalk provides general information on mosquito prevention, control, and mosquito-borne disease awareness. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for consulting a licensed pest control professional for property-specific infestation issues. See our Medical Disclaimer for full details.
